Uniseal - A Strategic Move

World Furniture CompanySince 1976, Uniseal has been producing and supplying innovative adhesive and sealant systems from their 1800 W. Maryland Street facility. Built in 1907, the three-story brick structure once housed the historic World Furniture Company of Evansville, Indiana (pictured left). Through resourceful thinking, Uniseal team members operated with the available three floors to best utilize the space for their needs (pictured right is 1800 West Maryland in 2010).

Fast forward to 2013! Uniseal purchases a 125,000 square foot facility located at 1000 Grove Street. Sitting on approximately seventeen acres, the new structure provides ample manufacturing space, as well as office and team member areas, all positioned on one floor. Today, design and construction needs are underway at Grove Street (see colored picture below) in order to relocate the Maryland Street operations. The layout of the new structure is being strategically designed to optimize operations. Uniseal’s management team is utilizing H3 Lean principles in the design/layout of the new manufacturing plant. Using lessons learned from Value Stream Mapping exercises, Kanban locations and product supermarkets have been factored into the plant layout design. In addition, 7-S principles and Visual Management Boards will be implemented before production begins. The Uniseal Team is preparing to start the equipment dismantling and moving phase as early as the Fall of 2014. Upon completion of the transition, an Open House / Ribbon Cutting ceremony is planned.

Uniseal President Brandon Willis said, "This new chapter in Uniseal’s history and the $7M investment demonstrate Uniseal’s commitment to the growth of the company. Ultimately, this move will enable Uniseal to better support the needs of our customers and our team members."
